Am I wrong for telling my fiance I will not enter into a marriage when his debt and finances are not in order?

My fiance and I recently became engaged about 30 days ago. I'm 36 and have never been married, have one son soon to be 20 yrs old. He is 47, has been divorced for 2 yrs, was married for 18 and has two children in college ages 20 & 21. Upon me bringing this to his attention, he admitted to his ex-wife having medical problems early in their marriage. Now it seems as though he might have a problem with us postponing the wedding from June 2011 to Oct 2011 and feels that we may need to reconsider some things. He doesn't feel that his credit will affect us, but I know his debt will become mine as mine will become his. I filed bankruptcy in 1999, and thanks to God I have not had 1 negative thing on my credit. I purchased my first home in 2004, which we planned to live in during our first year of marriage before purchasing a home together.
