Question about the contraceptive pill?

I've been on ovranette for about a year and a half, I've never had any problems with it and my periods are like clockwork. Over Christmas I was sick, I was vomiting a lot and so obviously I wasn't keeping my pill down. After a few days I just stopped taking it altogether, with the intention of finishing the pack when I'd recovered. However, after 3 days of not taking it, I started bleeding. I've been bleeding for 4 days now and it's pretty heavy. Is this normal? If so how long will it last? And will I still get my regular period once I've finished the pack? I've started back on the pill now.
