I'm buying a new tv and home theatre system... I already have a panasonic SA HT70 system?

which is probably 10 yrs old. its got five dvd changer player and 5 speakers. what is difference between home theatre and home entertainment system.if i make my own home theatre what do need to buy. what is amplifier for? Do i buy only speakers ( Boss or ?) Buy dvd player separate .Please advice
